 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

Joe Fresh Style

Are you ready to ditch that thread-bare pair of maternity pants that you wore every day for the last couple months, but you're not quite into those pre-pregnancy jeans?  If you're like me, you can hardly bring yourself to buy a $100 pair of jeans that you hope to be out of in two or three months. However, you will be getting out and about on an adventure with your baby each day and you need to have some in-between clothes that you can feel good in. So, it's time to go shopping!

Today's adventure will take you and your babe to the Real Canadian Superstore on 8th Street or Confederation Drive in Saskatoon. Their Joe Fresh Style line -- which is designed by Joseph Mimran, the driving force behind Alfred Sung, Club Monaco and Caban -- is both fashionable and affordable. (Check out photos from their Spring 2010 fashion show available at Elle Canada.)
  1. Go on a weekday and plan to finish before 5 p.m. Weekend and evening check-out lines can be too long for a little one to endure after a full day of shopping.
  2. Before setting out, get an idea of the budget you have and the holes in your wardrobe that need to be filled in the next couple months. Do you need a pair of jeans with a higher rise that doesn't put pressure on your C-section scar? Are you busting out of your blouses? Need tops that are more condusive to public breastfeeding? Do you have something to wear to mom and baby yoga? Make a list and prioritize.
  3. If you are driving, park in their free underground parking lot near the cart rack.
  4. You will need a loonie to remove a cart from the rack. (It will be returned to you when you return the cart.) Superstore's carts are the perfect size for fitting a car seat directly into them. Although some may not recommend this practice, I have found these particular carts to be quite sturdy for this purpose. If you are uncomfortable placing your baby in the cart, you may consider bringing your stroller.
  5. If it looks cute, try it on! One of the best things about this store is the big changing room in the back that fits a cart or stroller.
  6. Don't fail to check out the lingerie section! Nice undies just make everyone feel good, don't they?
  7. Joe Fresh also has darling, reasonably priced clothes for your baby, so swing by the children's section before checking out.
  8. I personally find trying on clothes to be exhausting, but if you feel you and your baby are up for more, you could pick some things up for dinner before leaving the store. Or, you could save grocery shopping for tomorrow's adventure!
