During this first year of your child's life, you will have countless opportunities to celebrate your baby's milestones: first smile, first tooth, first word. Just don't fail to celebrate your milestones as a parent!
I have a special tradition that I began with my son on his third-month birthday. While out for a stroller walk, he fell asleep. I happened to be walking by Calories on Broadway Avenue and there was a window seat and a piece of Oreo cheesecake calling my name.
As my son slept and I ate, I couldn't help reflecting back on the past three months. I had survived the first four weeks of continual crying...from both my baby and me! I had finally settled in comfortably with breastfeeding. My baby appeared to be healthy and happy despite my nagging fears that I would somehow mess him up in those early days. I had made a few new mom friends in the neighborhood. I was genuinely proud of myself.
I toasted myself with a Chai Tea Latte and vowed to meet myself there in a month's time to celebrate the growth that I was bound to make in the days to come. And so, I did. I have upheld a date with myself -- and my sleeping son -- during nap time on the 19th of every month since.
Celebrate your next monthly milestone as a mother with a visit to Calories or another parent-friendly place of indulgence in your neck of the woods. You deserve it!
(P.S. This weekend saskmom.com is celebrating another milestone -- the end of our first month!
